Sunnah 118: Du’a when putting on new clothes

September 27, 2010

Du’a when wearing a new garment:

“O Allah, for You is all praise, You have clothed me with it (i.e. the garment), I ask You for the good of it and the good for which it was made, and I seek refuge with You from the evil of it and the evil for which it was made.” [Abu Dawud & Tirmidhi]

Transliteration:

Allahumma lakal-hamd, anta kaswtanihi, as’aluka khairahu wa khaira ma suni`a lahu, wa a`udhu bika min sharrihi wa sharri ma suni`a lahu.

Nowadays we take it for granted when we wear new clothes. So let us memorize this du’a in order to remind ourselves of our Allah’s bounties upon us, and remember our obligations towards Him.
