Sunnah 104: Stay clean

August 6, 2010

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

The Prophet (pbuh) said: “Purifying oneself is half of eman (faith)” [Muslim]

We know that the Prophet (pbuh) lived in hot dry conditions. Despite this, the Prophet (pbuh) emphasized cleanliness, the using of the siwak, perfuming oneself (for men), washing the body fully and so on. He disliked for a person to come to the mosque with his clothes scruffy and dirty.

Nowadays, we have no excuse. If the Prophet (pbuh) could put in the effort at that time to be presentable and clean then so should we. Don’t leave your house with your clothes dirty or un-ironed, brush your teeth especially if you’ve eaten food with strong odor and ensure your intention is to follow the sunnah.
