Sunnah 84: Fast for Sha’ban

July 13, 2010

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

The Prophet (pbuh) said: “That (Sha’ban) is a month between Rajab and Ramadan which is neglected by many people. And it is a month in which an account of the deeds (of human beings) is presented before the Lord of the universe, so, I wish that my deeds be presented at a time when I am in a state of fasting.” [Nisa’i]

Aisha (ra) said: “I never saw the Prophet (pbuh) fasting in a month so profusely as he did in Sha’ban” [Nisa’i]

Alhamdillah we are in a blessed month where it is recommended to fast. We should fast in order to prepare ourselves for Ramadan. We can fast the sunnah days of every Monday and Thursday, or even every other day if we can. But we must remember not ot tire ourselves out as the Prophet (pbuh) said:

“Do good deeds which is within your capacity (without being overtaxed) as Allah does not get tired (of giving rewards) but surely you will get tired and the best deed (act of Worship) in the sight of Allah is that which is done regularly.” [Bukhari]
